Primary Mission

The primary mission of The Langley AFB Honor Guard is to provide military funeral honors for active duty members, retirees and veterans who served in the United States Air Force, Army Air Force and Army Air Corps. To request military funeral honors, please fill out the Langley AFB Military Funeral Honors Request Form. Submit the completed form and proof of honorable discharge from the United States Air Force via e-mail or fax to the e-mail address/fax number provided at the top of the form. Please ensure to confirm receipt after sending requests to avoid delays in processing.

Secondary Mission/event Support

The Langley AFB Honor Guard also supports a variety of events/functions around the base and community including but not limited to: promotions, retirements, parades, graduations, change of commands, POW/MIA tables, sword arches, weapons cordons and induction ceremonies. For level of support see below for details. To request support, please fill out the Langley Afb Color Guard Request Form. Submit the completed form via e-mail or fax to the e-mail address/fax number provided at the top of the form. Please ensure to confirm receipt after sending requests to avoid delays in processing.

Note: secondary mission/event support may be reduced or cancelled at any time due to military funeral honors support.

Sword Arches, Weapons Cordons

The Honor Guard may provide a sword arch or weapons cordon on a limited basis for official Air Force ceremonies at the wing level or above with multiple honorees. Level of support will vary due to the officiating party and type of ceremony.

Color Guards

The Honor Guard may provide a team of 4-6 ceremonial guardsmen to post, present or pre-post the US and USAF flags with 2 rifle guards (see request sheet for definitions). The VA State flag may be added but is not required. The US Army flag may be added in support of official Joint Base-Langley Eustis functions, as well as the US Space Force flag for official USSF functions. Other flags may be signed out for use as equipment permits. To inquire about joint service color guard support, please contact the 633d ABW Public Affairs Office at: 757.878.4920.

POW/MIA Tables

The Honor Guard may provide a POW/MIA Table ceremony on a limited basis for official Air Force formal dinners or other appropriate social functions. POW/MIA Table ceremonies may be requested for other functions but approval will be on a case-by-case basis.

Promotions

Honorees may request a color guard. Support is reserved for ranks promoting to E-7 and above for enlisted and O-4 and above for officers. Furling and unfurling for general officer promotion is also available as requested.

Retirements

Honorees may request a color guard. Support for members retiring from the USAF may request a flag fold and presentation. The Honor Guard will only fold the 5’ x 9.5’ flag during ceremonies. All other flags must be folded before or after the event.

Induction Ceremonies

Honorees may request to a color guard. A sword arch may be requested but will be approved on a case-by-case basis. Swords are also available for sign out if the requestor wishes to perform their own sword arch.
